Every week, thousands of football games are played, and there are countless markets available through bookmakers that provide a range of odds on virtually every aspect of the games.

A brief explanation of how Odds work

When placing a bet on a particular outcome, odds is defined as the ratio between the bet and possible earnings that are determined by a bookmaker. They usually appear as fractions (e.g., 2/1), but can also sometimes be shown as decimals (e.g., 2.00).

Understanding Football Odds

There are four things to focus on when betting on a football game: rotation number, moneyline, total, and point spread.

1. Rotation number

The 3-digit number that ticket sellers use to speak with bettors in order to avoid any confusion

2. Moneyline

Here, the team you bet on just needs to win the match. The underdog has a positive sign in front of their number while a negative sign with the favored team.

3. Total

Regarding the total number of points that will be scored in the match between the two teams, you can bet on either the “over” or the “under.”

5. Point Spread

The spread with a minus sign in front of the favored means the margin of victory that side must achieve in order to beat the spread.
